Ontario Expanding Access to Hospital Care in Cornwall
Expanded inpatient capacity at Cornwall Community Hospital will connect more people to quality care closer to home
January 28th, 2025 — The Ontario government is connecting more people in Cornwall and the surrounding area to better, more modern services by supporting the revitalization of Cornwall Community Hospital.
“Expanding access to high-quality healthcare at the Cornwall Community Hospital is essential for the well-being of residents in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry,” said Nolan Quinn, MPP for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry. “Our government's investment will ensure more patients receive excellent care, close to home, whenever they may need it."
Through this investment, Cornwall Community Hospital will be renovated to expand capacity by creating additional private and semi-private rooms equipped with washrooms, connecting even more people to acute care and support services. Existing infrastructure at the hospital will also be upgraded to meet current standards and enhance accessibility in inpatient areas. This new, revitalized facility will increase the hospital’s ability to care for more patients, improve infection prevention and control and ensure people and their families can continue to access convenient, high-quality care in their community.
“Our government is making record investments in hospital infrastructure to expand access to world-class care in communities across the province,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This revitalization of Cornwall Community Hospital is another way our government is connecting patients in Cornwall and the surrounding communities to timely, high-quality care in a modern, updated space, for years to come.”
As a next step, the ministry is working with Cornwall Community Hospital to complete early planning and design for this project. Once future planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded, a construction schedule will be confirmed.
