Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer
Resources proudly supports community involvement through a variety of programs
at CCH. Volunteer opportunities are limited to
specific roles and programs within the hospital. The table below describes some of the many
programs available for our CCH Volunteers. In addition, there are numerous volunteer leadership opportunities for
many of the programs detailed.
Auxiliary Gift Shop:
- Auxiliary Gift Shop Volunteers assist patients, families and visitors to purchase items from the Gift Shop in a friendly and compassionate manner. The gift shop has a lovely selection of personal gifts, clothing, seasonal items as well as practical personal items for admitted patients. Gift Shop proceeds are donated to the CCH Foundation in support of at CCH.
Auxiliary Lottery Ticket Volunteers:
- Auxiliary Lottery Ticket Volunteers assist people with a friendly and enthusiastic approach, to purchase break open lottery tickets. Lottery ticket proceeds are donated to the CCH Foundation in support of CCH.
Emergency Waiting Room Information Desk
- Emergency Room Volunteers provide information, directional support and assistance to patients, families and visitors in a friendly and compassionate manner in keeping with the ICARE Values of CCH.
Family Caregiver Centre
- Family Caregiver Centre Volunteers aim to compassionately welcome and support Caregivers to the FCC and connect them with information and resources that will help caregivers in their caregiver journey.
Geriatric Day Hospital
- Geriatric Day Hospital Volunteers help to prepare the clinic room for clients by getting materials ready, greeting clients and assisting staff as needed throughout the clinic session in a friendly and compassionate manner. The Geriatric Day Hospital assists up to 12 clients at each clinic, two days per week for ten weeks (typically Tuesday and Thursday mornings), then there is a small break of a few weeks, before the next session begins.
Information Desk Greeter
- Information Desk Volunteers greet patients, family and visitors to the hospital. They provide information, directional support (wayfinding) and assistance in a friendly and compassionate manner, respecting the diversity of our community and in keeping with the ICARE Values at CCH.
Knitters (Offsite)
- Volunteer knitters at Cornwall Community Hospital make items to support both programming and fundraising. Items made by our volunteers include:
- Newborn baby caps and stuffed animals for babies and children admitted to our Women & Children’s Health Unit;
- Stuffed animals for adults with long hospital stays who are lonely, or have mental health or cognitive concerns;
- And beautiful items donated for sale to the Auxiliary Gift Shop such as mittens and pot holders.
Meal Connections
- Meal Connection Volunteers visit admitted patients to CCH at meal times to provide friendly companionship, support patient’s efforts to eat and encourage good hand hygiene practices
Patient Booklet Volunteers
- Patient Booklet Volunteers visit newly admitted patients to the hospital to distribute an information booklet to each patient. Patient booklets contain useful and helpful information for the patient as well as the patient’s family. The booklets are also a useful place for the patient to store information on medical issues and discharge follow-ups
Patient and Family Advisors
- Patient and Family Advisors (PFAC) play a vital role in defining the partnership between patients, families and care providers to help CCH improve the patient and family experience. Patient and Family Advisors commit to join the Patient and Family Advisory Committee and as part of the committee, Advisors share their experiences as patients and caregivers at Cornwall Community Hospital, both positive and negative, to help the hospital gain insight and better understand how the patient and family experience can be improved. Students
